Bricket Wood Common
Bricket Wood is an extensive wooded common in South West Hertfordshire incorporating a large Site of Special Scientific Interest on the basis of its remnant lowland heath and ancient oak/hornbeam woodland.
What is there to do?
Access is largely restricted to existing rights of way as much of the site is very wet throughout most of the year and woodland growth is dens in places. There is however an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways through the site enabling visitors to explore widely. Many of the routes are level and wide and recent work has provided a raised causeway allowing year round access to one of the most vulnerable wet habitat areas.
How to get there?
Bricket Wood Common is within a short walk of Bricket Wood railway station which is on the Abbey Flyer Line between St Albans Abbey Station and Watford. There is easy access on foot from Bricket Wood and from Garston using one of two footbridges across the M1. For drivers there is limited informal parking alongside School Lane as well as in Smug Oak village.
