Hertfordshire County Council's website

Web version of the Definitive Map

Welcome to our online records of Public Rights of Way (RoW). Click on the link below to view a map showing the routes.

‘Tools’ buttons
These are at the top right of the screen. Use these to navigate. You can zoom in to any area of the county with the magnifying glass, pan up, down and across with the hand and click on a line with the information button to see the statement and other path information. The ‘?’ button opens a help screen. If you click on a route or draw a box, using the ‘i’ information button you will see a box at the bottom of the screen and you can click on the word 'website' to go to a description of a path (this is known as the ‘definitive statement’).

‘Display’ buttons
These are to the right of the map. Use these to see the key and path numbers for the Rights of Way routes. Click on the yellow folder for 'Highways', both the square and circular grey buttons for 'Rights of Way' should be ticked-on. To see the key, click on the white square button (with 3 black lines on it) to the left of the grey buttons and to add the path numbers, click on the small grey label (with a small arrow) to the right of the words 'Rights of Way' and it will turn yellow.

The paths on this map can only be viewed with the 1 to 10,000 base map (because that is the map on which they are recorded). If you zoom in too far the base map changes and the paths disappear. To see the rights of way again simply zoom out.

NB: This map is just a representation of the legal record of public rights of way in Hertfordshire. The legal record, known as the Definitive Map & Statement, can be seen at County Hall, District and Parish Council offices and your local library. For the purposes of buying or selling land or property, it is strongly recommended that you conduct a formal Land Charges search and ask your solicitor to check for public rights of way.

Please note that the Statements for the parish of South Mimms are not yet available online.
