In November 2002, the Herts Rural Forum held a seminar to consider the issues which needed to be addressed in order to achieve more sustainable land management and also to preview the national Sustainable Food and Farming Strategy. This strategy was published in December 2002 and sets out the Government’s agenda for the future of the farming and food industries in England.
The Strategy has triggered the production of regional Delivery Plans which will co-ordinate local action.
A key output from the Rural Forum’s seminar, was a ‘map’ generated through the participation of delegates, which set out the key local and regional sources of advice, training and grant aid for the land management industry. This map demonstrated the bewildering diversity of organisations and also the lack, in some cases, of a co-ordination between agencies delivering similar or complimentary services.
