Parish & Town Council Capacity Building Project

Description of Project - To improve the training opportunites for councillors and clerks, provide increased information to parish councils via the HAPTC website and by mail, administration of a £20,000 Computer Grant Fund to support parish councils with the purchase or upgrade of computer equipment.

Evidence of Need for this Project Activity - In reply to a questionnaire sent out to all Hertfordshire parish and town councils in October 2005 it was established that not all local councils use electronic communication or have access to the internet. This severely hampers their ability to provide the local community with up to date information and redtricts the council's ability to engage and participate in a wide range of 'e' based activities especially consultations.

Key activities for 2006/07
• Launch of the Computer Grant Fund
• Employment of the Parish & Town Council Development Officer
