The Park Development Plan (2002-2006) has come to an end having been endorsed by the Park’s Advisory Board. The Plan guided our activities for five years, and laid the foundations for the long-term future of Aldenham Country Park. It will be replaced in 2008 by a shorter term program of works which you will be available to see on this page
The Development Plan set out how we were to manage the Park and improve facilities for our visitors without changing the rural, informal character of the site. Path improvements and wet weather provision were the two areas to be tackled in order that all our visitors can reach the main features of the Park at any time of year. The Plan also identified how these improvements would be financed.
In addition, the Plan pulled together the numerous strands of on-going maintenance and improvement works that are needed to ensure the safety and enjoyment of our visitors each year. Improved classroom facilities to include cloakrooms and toilets as well as upgraded walks with new signs and information access were just part of a number of items successfully achieved within the last five years.
Other achievements in our recent work programme have included:
The long term plan is to redesign the nature trail and associated material as a multi-sensory trail, but this – like all our improvement work – is dependent on gaining additional funding through income generation and/or grant aid.
In 2007 we opened our new hand washing facility. Included in this area will be an information shelter complete with a short film about the Park. It is hoped that this will open during 2008.
Remember – every penny received by Aldenham Country Park is used for the running, maintenance and improvement of the Park and its facilities.
