Supported and 'permitted' employment

The WORKSTEP scheme, managed through Jobcentre Plus, is for people whose disabilities mean that they have more obstacles to overcome in finding and keeping a suitable job, but who can work well given the right support. It is a 3-way partnership between the employer, the WORKSTEP provider and the employee.
Further details are available from the Disability Employment Adviser at your local Jobcentre. Or select the link to the Jobcentre Plus website on the right of this page.

The county council's Work Solutions service, an equal opportunities recruitment and training agency in Hertfordshire, can also offer support and advice.

Permitted employment is work that you can do while claiming incapacity benefit (or severe disablement allowance). This allows you to try some paid work without it affecting your incapacity benefit, but there are conditions involved.
