Careers advice

Many organisations provide information and support for disabled people in their career development.

The Careers Service, Connexions Service, or Disability Employment Adviser (based at Job Centres) can give you advice on training and employment opportunities. They can provide information on ways in which courses can be tailored to meet your needs and how to access equipment and support such as readers or interpreters.

Connexions employ personal advisors to work with young people who need individual support. While they usually work with those aged 13 – 19 years old, if you have a disability they can continue to work with you until you are 25.

The Leonard Cheshire Foundation has a project called Workability to assist young disabled people in finding computer equipment and IT training to help them get into work. See the link under 'External links' on this page for more information.
