Housing associations

The Housing Associations work to provide affordable homes for local people. They are non-profit making organisations which provide accommodation, generally for rent.

Some housing associations cater for one particular client group (such as disabled people or older people) while others house people (including able-bodied and disabled) on an integrated basis.

They do not necessarily use the same strict allocation procedures of local council housing departments, so they can provide housing for those who are not provided for (or cannot be provided for) by the housing departments.

You may contact a housing association direct, or your local housing department may refer you. You can get in touch with your local housing department through your local council - see the link under 'Also on Hertsdirect' called 'Which district am I in?' to find your local council details.
