Audiology and hearing services

If you require a hearing assessment or hearing aid you will need to contact your GP for a referral. Private suppliers of hearing aids may have a wider range, but the quality of the service provided can vary. These suppliers are regulated by the Hearing Aid Council.

Hearing problems experienced by children will often be investigated by a health visitor in the first instance.

Voluntary organisations such as Hertfordshire Hearing Advisory Service (HHAS) can provide additional information and access to a range of equipment, such as visual doorbells and alarms, which can make daily life easier.

NHS Direct may also be able to offer advice.
