Incontinence refers to a loss or weakening of control of the bladder, bowel or both. Your GP can refer you to a continence adviser who can give practical advice and arrange supplies of pads, catheters etc.
The supplies or equipment that are available through the NHS vary from area to area. In some areas there are also laundry services run by social services or the NHS. Shops and mail order companies sell a wide range of incontinence products and Hertfordshire Action on Disability also supplies such products.
If you need assistance to get to and from the lavatory, or are incontinent, you may be entitled to a benefit such as Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance.
