Libraries, Culture & Learning (LC&L) Learning & Development

At present a separate programme is available, specifically designed to meet the needs of staff working in Libraries, Culture & Learning, although they do have access to the CSF courses if these will meet a training need. The courses offered in the Annual LC&L L&D Plan will vary each year as they are provided in response to analysis of the PMDS information from all staff and from management input regarding new developments in the library service.

Any member of staff, who has identified an area of training need on their PMDP with their line manager, will automatically be given priority for available places and be sent a personal notification of learning opportunities that are relevant to them individually.

A Schedule of courses is sent out to all LC&L teams on a monthly basis and courses are also advertised in the LC&L Bulletin. Most workplaces will circulate these to staff or have an L&D notice board so make sure that you are checking these regularly.

As a summary, the types of training available would include;
  • Induction courses and other L&D for new staff.
  • Management L&D such as Supervisory Skills, Introduction to Management, Project Management, Change Management etc.
  • Personal Development Skills such as Time Management, Presentation Skills, Report Writing, Assertiveness & Personal Effectiveness.

  • Equalities & Diversity Awareness, ranging from general courses to specific workshops on gay/lesbian provision & issues, basic skills, mental health, visual impairment and adaptive technology.
