Research in Practice - RIP

WHO ARE RIP?

Research in practice is the largest children and families research implementation project in England and Wales. It is a department of The Dartington Hall Trust run in collaboration with the Association of Directors of Social Services, The University of Sheffield and our network of over 80 participating agencies in the UK. Established in 1996 as an ADSS initiative, research in practice is now the largest childcare research implementation project in the country.

Its mission is to promote positive outcomes for children and families through the use of research evidence. Its purpose is to identify effective methods of understanding and using research by providing services to a collaborative network of committed agencies.

Research resources:

Research resources is a new section of the website designed to help you find and evaluate research. It contains sections on the following subjects:

• Finding research
• Accessing research
• Evaluating research
• Glossary of research terms
• Key journals
• Research reviews
• Learning links

e-learning - Finding and Evaluating Research

Finding and Evaluating Research is one of five e-learning packages available and can be found at:

THE EVIDENCE BANK

The EvidenceBank is a database that holds details of research reviews and summaries of research related to the broad category of children in need. It is divided into two sections:

1 - Research Links

This section provides you with a range of research links that are useful for evidence-informed practice. The purpose is to provide a selective rather than a comprehensive set of links in order to guide you through the often bewilderingly wide range of online resources. All the sites identified are freely available - we have not listed subscription services.

2 - Research and Policy Updates (RPUs)

Research and Policy Updates are intended to help agencies keep up to date with national research and policy developments. They provide monthly signposts to useful material that you might otherwise miss.
