Civil Renewal of Marriage Vows

This ceremony is for any married couple who wish to renew their commitment to one another in a unique and personal way. Often these ceremonies are associated with a special wedding anniversary, such as the tenth, twenty-fifth, fortieth etc. but they do not have to be. The ceremony can be just as appropriate for couples at any stage of marriage. It is sometimes particularly relevant to those who have been through a period, which has put a strain on their relationship, and now wish to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other.

Your Unique Ceremony!

Any married couple of any age and married for any length of time can arrange a renewal of marriage vows. Also it does not matter if you do not live in the area where you would like your ceremony to be held.

The detailed contents of the ceremony are chosen by you and, just as no two married couples are the same, so no two ceremonies to renew marriage vows will ever be the same. As you go through the various choices and make your selections you will be creating a unique event that the two of you will treasure and your guests will remember. Therefore it is a good idea to take time and think carefully about the options that are appropriate and have meaning for you both.

The special people in your lives can take part in your ceremony; your children, guests who were at the wedding and particular friends and relatives. You will also need to ask two people to witness the signing of the certificate of the event.

In Hertfordshire the celebrant who conducts your ceremony will be a registrar but will not be acting in that official capacity. Similarly, some rooms, that are in Register Offices, may be used for Renewal of Marriage Vows Ceremonies but are not designated as statutory offices during the ceremony. The Hertfordshire Registration Service has been awarded a Charter Mark for the excellence of its service and customer care. This is an indication that staff involved in this additional work can be expected to approach it with commitment and professionalism.
