Will there be a jury at an inquest?

Most inquests are held without a jury and the findings are made solely by the Coroner.

There are certain circumstances where a jury will be summoned. These include:
  • deaths in prison or in police custody
  • deaths resulting from industrial accidents
  • some cases of industrial disease
  • situations in which it seems possible that further deaths may occur in similar circumstances to the one being considered
