The Cell Barnes Youth Project (CBYP) was set up in 2001 to address some of the issues concerning anti-social behaviour around the Cell Barnes area. The problems had been highlighted at a public meeting attended by various members of the community, district and county councillors, as well as the local MP.
The aim of the project is two fold. Firstly, to improve the facilities for young people in the local area and secondly, to provide activities where some of the 'issues of concern' can be addressed in a non-threatening way; through a hobby or interest that the young people have.
Since the project was setup we have worked with St Albans District Council to improve the facilities on local playing fields eg. the provision of basketball and football posts. We have also run various activities for young people including DJ workshops, girls nites in/out and several 'On 2 Wheels' bike projects.
The Cell Barnes Youth Project management team currently consists of representatives from St Albans District Council, Herts County Council, local churches, community police officers, Neighbourhood watch groups and local residents
