The Royal Gunpowder Mills at Waltham Abbey offers visitors a truly unique day out.

Set in 170 acres of natural parkland and boasting 20 buildings of historical importance, the site mixes fascinating history, exciting science and beautiful surroundings to produce a magical trip for both young and old.

Whether you are interested in tracing the evolution of Gunpowder technology, uncovering the impact it had on the history of Great Britain, or simply discovering what it was like to work there, a visit to the Royal Gunpowder Mills will not disappoint.

Exhibitions, guided land train tours, special weekend events, family activities, cafe, shop, picnic areas, nature walk and wildlife and so much more!

Discounts for pre-booked group visits, school and youth visits and education programmes.

The Mill is located within the historic town of Waltham Abbey and next to the River Lee Country Park, just of Junction 26 of the M25 motorway.

Opening hours: 25th April to 27th September 2009;
The Royal Gunpowder Mills are open on Weekends & Bank Holiday Mondays (plus Wednesdays during the school summer holidays for childrens activities, in addition to the normal attractions) from 11.00am to 5.00pm (last entry 3.30pm).

Facilities for people with disabilities:
All buildings except one are wheelchair accessible, disabled toilets located to side of cafe and film buildings.
Lift/ramp on back of land train ride - their guided tour of site, will take wheelchairs.
Also several wheelchairs and 2 electric scooters available on loan from shop/ticket office (on busy days pe-booking is advisable).
Guide dogs allowed on site (sorry no other animals.
