The Pump House is a voluntary organisation which is currently and historically self-supporting. The old water pumping station for Watford was transformed by volunteers and opened in 1972 to form the community theatre and arts centre it is today.
The centre acts as a venue for:
* two resident amateur theatre groups (adult and youth/ children);
* male and female Morris dancing teams;
* a traditional jazz club with well-known bands performing weekly;
* musical 'openhouse' nights weekly;
* plus many other activities and special events.
The Pump House facilities comprise a 124-seat theatre with bar/ foyer, the Colne River Room (capacity for 140, includes moveable platform stage), The Charles Room (a small meeting/ music room), and rehearsal space with pianos. All these facilities are available for hire.
