The Apsley Paper Trail project is a social enterprise charity established in January 2000, which is developing a multi-activity centre around the site of the world's first commercial paper making mill and the former John Dickinson Stationary Co, in Apsley, Hertfordshire. Its main aim is to educate people about the role of paper media past, present and future.
The project provides:
* A working environment (Frogmore Paper Mill, Visitor Centre for heritage, tourism and leisure and Conference Centre);
* An Education Centre for schools, colleges and local community;
* A Professional Training Centre for business and industry;
* A Research Centre for the paper industry;
* An Enterprise Centre for business start-ups;
* An Environment and Sustainability Centre for all;
* A partnership model and exemplars.
The Project has just completed its first phase of repair and refurbishment.
They provide jobs, training courses, leisure courses and intermediate labour market opportunities through volunteer work, requiring a variety of skills to the jobs market.
