Cheslyn House and Gardens were created by Henry and Daisy Colbeck. From 1965, Cheslyn was run in partnership with the Borough Council, which assumed full control in 1971 on Mr Colbeck's death.
Over time, the gardens have been expanded to cover 3.5 acres. The gardens are maintained by the Council's parks section and are open throughout the year free of charge. Shrubberies and woodland areas provide habitats for a wide variety of wildlife.
Other features include large herbaceous borders, an aviary and a large pond.
The house can only be hired for events of a horticultural nature (no parties or weddings etc). The ground floor offers 2 lecture rooms, kitchen and toilet facilities.
