Westfield is a comprehensive school maintained by Hertfordshire Education Authority and it caters for young people from 11 to 18 years. It gained Technology College Status in September 2001 and Full Service Extended School status in spring 2005.
This school has a great variety of young people from many ethnic and social groups. Currently over 20 languages are spoken fluently by members of the 1000+ student body. As a multicultural comprehensive school they are very proud of their diverse curriculum which provides opportunity for their children to excel.
The school is committed to and has strong sense of community based learning and its place in the community. This was demonstrated with the opening of the Westfield Learndirect Centre; the adult education scheme facilitating greater flexibility and accessability to over 900 courses. This venture widens the range of opportunities currently afforded by the Adult Education provision.
Westfield has been designated a Children's Centre: there is a nursery on the school site, and close links have been made with pre-school groups, the Childminders' Association and local primary schools. There are Breakfast, After School and Holiday clubs for children from the age of five upwards who need to be cared for while their parents are at work.
A dual use Sports Hall means Westfield now has some of the best sports facilities in Hertfordshire. The school's facilities are used extensively by local clubs and groups as well as for wedding and other functions. A wide range of over fifty evening and weekend classes take place.
All these activities encompass the five outcomes of full service extended schools: be healthy; stay safe; enjoy & achieve; make a positive contribution and achieve economic well-being. They also reinforce Westfield's ethos of life long learning.
If you wish to know more about Westfield, its clubs or its facilities, please contact the school; visitors and enquiries are always welcome. If you wish to hire facilities please contact the Premises Manager, Mr Nigel Parsons.
