Place House is situated in Bluecoat Yard, Ware, Herts SG12 9HL and was formerly known as the Manor House of Ware. In 1973 it was acquired by the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust following the death of John Whitfield, retired County Archivist, who owned and lived in Place House. It was through his generosity and foresight that Place House and many cottages have survived.
Place House is now partly residential, partly used for offices and the 14th century hall itself is now a public hall. A variety of local organisations use it, so the object of the Ware War Memorial Fund to provide a hall for the community has been achieved, the Fund having used its assets to make a donation towards the cost of restoration.
