Beaumont School is a sucessful mixed comprehensive school with approximately 1200 pupils from age 11 to 18 (Years 7-13). It has been regularly oversubscribed. Places occasionally become available and it is advisable to contact the local education authority to obtain the latest information. It is a designated school for pupils with physical or neurological impairments who are capable of participating in mainstream education. The school achieved specialist school status as a "Language College" in September 2003 and upon recognition as a High Performing Specialist School gained Maths and Computing as a second specialism in 2007. One third of students take GCSE French in Year 9.
Examination results have been consistently very good; full results are published each year with the school's prospectus.
The headline statistics in 2008 were:
86% of pupils obtaining 5 or more GCSE grades A* - C;
60% of pupils obtaining 10 GCSE grades A* - C;
78% of pupils obtaining 5 or more GCSE grade A* - C including Maths and English;
785 points per A Level candidate (new scoring system);
224 points per entry.
The majority of pupils take 10 GCSE courses and stay into the sixth form before going on to higher education. The school was inspected by Ofsted in March 2006 and received a very good report. The inspectors concluded that the school is 'a good school with aspects of its work which are outstanding. The school is well led and managed, with many stengths'. The quality of the curriculum and other activities in the main school and in the sixth form was judged to be outstanding. The sixth form provision is based on strong collaboration with Sandringham School, Verulam School and Oaklands College.
