The Barabara Bus Fund has a small fleet of adapted vehicles for wheelchair users. The vehicles may be borrowed by individuals or groups, care homes, schools etc for up 2 weeks at a time.
To see full details of the individual vehicles available, either visit the website or ask their office to send you the Vehicle Profiles.
Who can use the vehicles?
Anyone who is dependent on a wheelchair and cannot transfer to use cars, taxis or public transport.
How much will it cost?
As a registered charity, we do not make a set charge for the use of the vehicles. However, we do ask users to return the vehicles clean, tidy and with a full tank of fuel. If users can make a donation to the Fund it is much appreciated.
Where can I go in the vehicles?
Wherever you like - for up to a maximum of two weeks, if you have your own driver. If you wish to go abroad we need to know in advance.
Who can drive me?
Friends, relatives or carers may drive you. They will need to be registered with the Fund and should be between 25 and 75 years old, with a clean drivers licence.
Do you supply volunteer drivers?
We do have some volunteer drivers, mainly for local trips. You would normally need to take a carer with you if you use one of our drivers. There is a small milage charge payable when using a volunteer driver.
Are the vehicles insured?
Once drivers register with the Fund, they are covered by our Fully Comprehensive Insurance. We also provide Public Liability Cover.
Will my wheelchair fit in the vehicles?
Most electric and manual wheelchairs fit in our vehicles. If your wheelchair is very large or tall, please check the measurements with our staff. All users are responsible for ensuring that their wheelchairs are suitable for securing with a four point restraint.
