The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCP) is a trade union and professional body for HPC registered chiropodists and podiatrists in the UK. The Society has around 10,000 members, who are employed both in NHS and private sector.
Most NHS chiropodists are employed by Community Trusts, providing a local chiropody and podiatry service in clinics and health centres. In some areas domiciliary visits are offered.
Chiropodists are qualified to provide a wide range of footcare treatments, eg.
* biomechanics
* relieve pain
* treat infections and skin, nail, soft tissue and connective tissue problems. High risk patient management eg diabetes
Soem chiropodists are also qualified to carry out bone surgery in the feet.
