The HAA was founded in 1929, and is the local branch of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA: registered charity number 210566). It has sought to promote high standards in design. An early venture was the formation in 1930 of a panel of architects in association with the Council for the Protection of Rural England to advise local authorities on design and materials, a voluntary task that members undertake to this day. Members have included Barry Parker, architect/planner of Letchworth and Louis de Soissons, the designer of Welwyn Garden City.
HAA organises talks and seminars on architecture for architects, young people and the general public. Many events are held in interesting Hertfordshire buildings.
Over recent years the HAA has organised a Conservation and Design Show at Hatfield House in partnership with the Hertfordshire Building Preservation Trust.
Anyone is invited to become a friend of the HAA for a small annual fee, which gives access to the programme and news on architecture.
AGM: February.
