Founded in 1924, the Association is non political. Its sole aim is to represent the interests of the citizen. It has a pivotal role in campaigns to preserve the best of the town whilst improving facilities for all age groups.

It monitors all planning applications. It comments on all major proposed developments.

The Citizens Association has a regular programme of talks on subjects of local interest for members and their friends and other events including organised walks through areas of special interest.

In 2007 the Association launched a new footpath map covering 100 square miles in and around Berkhamsted.
