There are ten public meetings a year. The Society monitors planning proposals, particularly in Conservation Area. Bi-annial awards scheme for new/renovated buildings. Voluntary opening of Scotts Grotto to public on behalf of District Council.

The society was founded in 1965 and registered with the Civic Trust.
