Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club

WGCSC is a friendly dinghy racing club for all ages. It meets on most Saturday mornings throughout the year. Most members sail Lasers, Supernovas, Comets, Enterprises, Leaders and Toppers. Any recognised dinghy of less than 16 feet in length is welcome.

Racing starts at 10.00am and finishes around 1.00pm. Prizes are awarded over a series of about 12 races - for each of the two handicap fleets (fast & slow) and a pursuit series. There are four regattas each year for members - Easter Egg Cup (Easter Saturday); Summer Regatta (late May/early June); Commodore's Cup (end October) and Christmas Pudding Race. There is also an Open pursuit meeting - the Punch Bowl Trophy - in late September. Non-members are not eligible for prizes except in Open events.

The club sails on the 18-acre Sailing Lake in Stanborough Park which is owned by Welwyn Hatfield Council. It is situated beside the A1(M) close to junction 4. There is a car park close to the launching area, as well as a lakeside cafe and a restaurant. Changing rooms and hot showers are available to sailors. There is a locked compound for dinghy storage (enquiries to Stanborough Park). A small fleet of Toppers, Topaz, Pico's and Leader dinghies are availalbe for hire from the Council and can be used for racing.
