Contemporary Medau teaching has developed from the method originated by gymnast and musician Hinrich Medau. Close links are maintained with the college in Germany which he founded in 1929.
Based on rhythm and music, a Medau class seeks to offer exhilarating changes in rhythm, pace, and dynamics - the body is treated as a whole which offers a way to relieve tension and stress and to achieve a harmonious balance between freedom of movement and physical efficiency.
The Medau society:
* Links together all participants, classes, and teachers, throughout the country.
* Organises courses to train new teachers.
* Runs in service training courses to enable qualified teachers to keep in touch with contemporary ideas.
* Supports the development of Medau work with handicapped and less able people.
* Organises residential holiday courses, social events, and runs national and area display teams.
Parent organisation: Medau Society; Member of EMDP.
