The League provides soccer for senior status adult mens clubs in Hertfordshire and immediately adjoining counties.
The league is a member of the Isthmian Lower Tier of the English System Pyramid of Football.
It operates a first team and reserve team section each of which consists of two divisions.
A Senior Reserve League competition was introduced in 2003-2004 to cater for the Reserve teams of Hertfordshire's senior non-league clubs, but was suspended in 2004-05.
Current membership stands at 30 clubs (57 teams). Three internal cup competitions are run - The Aubrey Cup for 1st teams, the Reserves Cup for Reserves teams and the Herts Floodlit Cup for teams with floodlit facilities.
The league celebrated its centenary in 1998-99 and in August 2000 published a book of its history, (available from the league).
Affiliated to the Hertfordshire Football Association.
