For more than 150 years the Methodist Local Preachers Mutual Aid Association (LPMA) was a caring organisation based firmly in the Methodist church and the Wesleyan Reform Union of Churches. In 2005, The Leaders of Worship and Preachers Trust (LWPT), was established to continue and extend the work of LPMA.
For over 200 years Local Preachers have played an essential role in the life of the Methodist people as they have bought the gospel, through their experience of everyday life and work, to their congregations. Ordained Ministers and other trained Leaders of Worship also make significant contributions in their own particular ways in the 21st century church.
The closer relationship which, in today's churches, exists between the denominations, makes it appropriate to recognise the similar role carried out, often under different titles, by people in those churches where ecumencial relationships exist.
LWPT is a caring organisation that recognises the value of those who have dedicated their life to helping others to worship meaningfully and to extend the understanding of Scripture. For those men and women, whether active, retired or still in training, their widows/widowers and dependents, LWPT, seeks to offer a helping hand in times of financial need. LWP Homes provides Residential Care Accommodation in Homes at Westcliff-on-Sea, Woodhall Spa, Grange-over-Sands and Minehead.
The Trustees have the discretion to consider support for training, continuing development, resources and materials for leaders of worship and preachers.
