The Cathedral and Abbey Church of Saint Alban is the seat of the Bishop of St Albans and serves the Diocese of St Albans in the counties of Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, Luton and the London Borough of Barnet.
The Cathedral is also a parish church with a large and active congregation. The head of the Cathedral establishment is the Dean of St Albans, The Dean is also the Rector of the parish of St Albans Abbey.
The Cathedral is a centre of worship and mission with a world renowned musical tradition and a highly regarded Education Centre.
Ecumenical links are strong with honorary ecumenical chaplains from the Roman Catholic, Free Church, Lutheran and Orthodox traditions. Regular services are conducted in the Cathedral by the ecumenical chaplains who take full part in the life of the place.
St Albans Cathedral is affiliated to the Church of England, the Anglican Communion.
Entrance to the Cathedral is free, although a donation is requested.
Disabled facilities:
The Cathedral and Abbey Church has two disabled parking spaces in Sumpter Yard. Wheelchair-friendly access into the building is via the doorway in front of these bays. Steps within the Cathedral are ramped and three wheelchairs are available to use by visitors while in the building. A disabled toilet is located within the Cathedral, as is a cafe, which is accessible to wheelchairs from the South Door only.
Opening Hours:
St Albans Cathedral is open until 5.45pm all year round (closed after 2.00pm on Christmas Day).
