The national public relations and ecumenical headquarters of the Coptic Orthodox Church is based at the Coptic Orthodox Church Centre, which is under the care of His Grace Bishop Angaelos. They have conference and meeting facilities which are utilised not only by religious groups but by a broad range of other organisations. The Centre has embarked on a project called 'The Cornerstone' which is the church's preparation for her future, giving the Centre a new church building named 'Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George' along with a recreational hall, conference facilities and meeting rooms. This has been built in the traditional style and is the first of its' kind in the United Kingdom.
In its' parish capacity, 'Coptic Orthodox Cathedral of Saint George' serves a wide area across the three counties, and is served by Fr Shenouda A. Shenouda.
The Coptic theological college for the United Kingdom is based at the Centre, which specialises in youth and ecumenical work for the Church both nationally and internationally, as well as locally. Frequent youth conferences take place there.
The Coptic Orthodox Church is the ancient church of Egypt founded by St Mark the apostle around 55AD and is the largest church in the Middle East. The current head of the Church is His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, whose title is 'Pope of Alexandria' and Patriarch of the see of Saint Mark' and who resides in Cairo, Egypt. The Centre is his residence while in the United Kingdom.
The Coptic Orthodox Church is a deeply spiritual and conservative church who follows mainstream Christian Scripture, as well as the Doctrines and rituals handed down by the founding Fathers of the Church in the early centuries of Christianity. It is a living and growing church, in the last thirty years it has spread all over the world and there are now over fifteen churches in the United Kingdom.
