Madhyamaka Centre is a thriving Buddhist meditation centre situated in the York area just outside the town of Pocklington, in the north of England. Founded in 1983 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, it is one of the largest and most well established Buddhist Centres in the UK. Based in a stunning Georgian mansion and set amongst the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire wolds, the centre provides meditation teachings, meditation courses and meditation retreats to people from all walks of life.

The centre is an ideal place to visit if you would like to learn to meditate. We offer weekly evening meditation classes, both here and in local towns and cities, where beginners to the subject as well as those with some experience can learn meditation techniques. These techniques are practical and particularly suitable for those with busy lifestyles. We also offer introductory day courses, relaxing Weekend Meditation Retreats, and longer in depth courses, all of which offer insights into how to develop a meditation practice.

If you would like to learn more about Buddhism, Madhyamaka Centre provides a number of courses in Buddhist studies, as well as regular retreats where one can deepen ones' experience of Buddhist practice.

Madhyamaka Centre is one of the hundreds of Buddhist centres in the UK and internationally that form the New Kadampa Tradition.
