School age children in the Stevenage area have the chance to train in the performing arts at their local branch of the Nationwide network of Stagecoach schools.
Stagecoach, established in 1988, is the largest part time stage school in the country. Students train for three hours a week (one and a half for 4-7 year olds) in dance, drama and singing all with specialist professional teachers. In addition to preparing for a future career, the traning is perticularly beneficial in fostering confidence, self esteem, poise and communication skills.
The Stevenage Stagecoach takes place on Saturdays and run concurrently with the school term. Boys and girls aged 4-16 years work together with other in their own age group. Parents are invited to attend twice yearly performances and are kept in touch with their children's progress through written reports.
Whilst Stagecoach's foremost aims are to educate and prepare students for their future careers, there are opportunities for some talented youngsters to work professionally while at the school and local Stagecoach students join the National Agency in their second year.
