Hertfordshire Community Meals. Stevenage Borough Council area

Hertfordshire County Council provides meals delivered to your home. (This service is sometimes referred to as 'meals on wheels').

Referrals for meals on wheels are made through Hertfordshire County Council: 0300 123 4042.

The service is available to any Stevenage resident who has difficulty in preparing a cooked meal or is unable to obtain a meal from another source, and is also subsidised by Stevenage Borough Council.

Meals are available 7 days a week including Bank Holidays and Christmas and are delivered at lunchtime.

The service is provided by Hertfordshire Community Meals, a not-for-profit social enterprise.

The cost per meal is £3.05 (as at April 2009). This includes a main meal and a pudding. Payment is collected monthly in arrears. This can be by cheque, postal order, telephone payments by debit/credit card or direct debit.

The choice of meals:
There is a menu of five main meal options a day, including two vegetarian options. There is a choice of three desserts a day on the menu: hot dessert, cold dessert or fresh fruit. If a menu is not filled out then the customer will be provided with the meal and dessert of the day.

• Gluten free
• Diabetic
• Texture modified (pureed)
• Low salt
• Low fat

Bulk deliveries of frozen meals:
Frozen meals can be delivered in bulk to the customer’s home every two weeks. Each delivery will contain two weeks’ worth of meals and the minimum order is for 12 main meals and 12 desserts.

A table top freezer can be provided if the customer’s own freezer is not big enough to store the food. A steamer or microwave can also be provided, if required, to help with preparing the meals.
