Age Concern St Albans is a long-established separate charity within the national Age Concern Federation.
ACSA provides a Meals on Wheels Service from Monday to Friday in St Albans City & District (please contact manager for details of the specific area covered).
Who is eligible for meals on wheels?
A person who is:
* Frail elderly
* Housebound
* Prevented from shopping, preparing and cooking a hot meal due to a disability
* Recently discharged from hospital
* in need of temporary help to relieve a carer
Who can refer people the Meals on Wheels service?
* Doctors
* Adult Care Services (formerly Social Services)
Cost of meals
* Meals costs £2.30 per meal.
Choice of meals
* There is a choice of menu and special diets are catered for e.g. diabetic.
Other facilities
A 12 seat minibus, equiped with a tail-lift, is available for hire by elderly people or groups. Visits can be made to day centres and clubs and for any other trips for social, leisure and recreational purposes. A passenger in a wheelchair can be accomodated. It may be necessary for a suitably experienced driver to be made available by the users.
The Welfare Centre in St Peters Street is managed by ACSA and is used by a variety of community groups, for older people's services etc. The Centre is located near Hall Place Gardens, but is not generally open to the public. There is a large hall with a stage and kitchen which is available for hire. Parking in the area is very limited.
