All meals are freshly prepared and cooked on the day and delivered hot, ready to eat. Meals are organised by the Borough Meals staff but are delivered to each client's home by volunteers.
Who is eligible for meals on wheels?
A person who is
* frail elderly
* housebound
* recently discharged from hospital
* in need of temporary help to relieve a carer
* prevented from shopping, preparing and cooking a hot meal due to a disability
Who can refer people for the Meals on Wheels service?
* Doctor
* Hospital social worker
* Sheltered scheme manager
* District nurse
* Hertfordshire County Council Adult Care Services (formerly Social Services)
Cost and delivery of the meals
Meals cost (as at 10/11/2008) £2.75 (weekdays) £3.25 (weekends)
Monthly invoice to recipient or family. Each meal consists of a main course and a dessert. Delivery can be arranged for seven days a week between 11.30am and 1.30pm, this includes Bank Holidays.
To cancel any meal please phone the office (listed above) before 9.00am.
Choice of meals
Only meal of the day.
Dietary requirements are catered for e.g. diabetic, vegetarian, religious / ethnic, eating difficulties. Salads and steamed fish can be requested.
