WRVS Meal Service (Borough Of Broxbourne)

Meals supplied in Hoddesdon, Broxbourne, Wormley, Cheshunt, Waltham Cross and Goffs Oak.

Who is eligible for meals on wheels?
A person who is:
- frail elderly.
- housebound.
- prevented from shopping, preparing and cooking a hot meal due to a disability.
- recently discharged from hospital.
- in need of temporary help to relieve a carer.

Who can refer people for the meals on wheels service?
People wanting this service during the week can refer themselves by contacting the above address/telephone number.

Weekend provision is by Quantum Care or Susan James Meals, and these can be organised via the Adult Care Services (formerly Social Services). Contact Adult Care Services via the Customer Service Centre. See the 'Contact us' link on this page.

Cost and delivery of the meals
Delivered to the client's home by volunteers and paid staff between Monday and Friday. Cost is £2.65 (as of March 2008).

Choice of meals
Choice of menu.
Special diets e.g. low fat, soft food, vegetarian, diabetic, can be catered for.

Volunteer information
Volunteers are required to work in pairs (driver and mate) delivering hot meals according to lists of addresses supplied.

Volunteers may work as often or as little as they choose.
The mileage rate is 40p per mile, and based on number of dates deliveries were made.
