The Office of the Telecommunications Ombudsman (Otelo) is a free, independent ombudsman service to resolve disputes between consumers and telephone and internet service providers.
Under the Communications Act (section 54), telephone and internet service providers are required to offer an independent ADR procedure. These procedures must be approved by the regulator, Ofcom, in consultation with the Department of Trade and Industry. Otelo has been approved by Ofcom as an independent ADR scheme that meets the requirements of the legislation. Another approved ADR scheme, the Communications and Internet Services Adjudication Service (CISAS), is available to customers of other providers, including Orange and T-Mobile.
Otelo is also a member of the British and Irish Ombudsman Association and meets its membership criteria; see www.bioa.org.uk
