The British Library is a research library. They exist for everyone who wants to do research for academic, personal and commercial purposes.
To use the Reading Rooms you will need to apply for a pass. Where appropriate they may suggest other libraries or sources of information which my help you.
Applicants must bring:
Identification bearing your signature (ie. bank card, passport)
and
Identification showing your home address (ie. driving licence, utility bill).
It would be helpful if you could bring anything that will support the application, such as a student card, letter of introduction or a reading list.
Prospective readers under the age of 18 who wish to use the library's reasing rooms should contact Reader Admissions in advance.
The length of pass issued is dependent on the type of research you are doing. These can vary between 1 month and 3 years.
Opening hours (Readers Admissions Office)
Monday 10.00am-6.00pm;
Tuesday 9.30am-8.00pm;
Wednesday 9.30am-6.00pm;
Thursday 9.30am-6.00pm;
Friday 9.30am-4.30pm;
Saturday 9.30am-4.30pm.
NB Last orders for book delivery is 4.00pm.
