The National Film and Television School (NFTS) educates the best of each new generation of creative talent to the highest possible standard for tomorrow's film and television industry. Founded in 1971, its 1500+ students and graduates have won some 800 wards, including Oscars and BAFTA's, an exceptional record.
There is a great demand for suitably qualified new entrants to film and television and most NFTS graduates quickly find employment in the field in which they have trained. Alumni include Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit, Beedan Kidron (Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason), David Yates, director of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, documentarist Nick Broomfield (His Big White Self), screenwriter Ashley Pharoh, co-creator and writer of Life on Mars, and cinematographer David Tattersall (James Bond - Die Another Day and Star Wars Episodes I, II and III). Recently NFTS graduates have worked on feature films like The Golden Compass, St Trinian's, Atonement, Brick Lane and The Bourne Ultimatum and TV programmes such as Doctor Who, Shaun the Sheep and The Tudors.
The NFTS offers MA courses specialising in Cinematography, composing for film and television, digital post production, direction (animation, documentary or fiction), editing, producing, producing and directing entertainment television, production design, sound post production, screenwriting and SFX/VFX (special/visual effects). It also offers diploma courses in editing for entertainment television, production management, script development and sound recording. ShortCourses@NFTS run courses for freelancers and professionals employed in film and television.
