East Anglian Film Archive

The East Anglian Film Archive is the region's public film, video and television archive preserving moving images relating to the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. The archive holds moving images from 1896 to the present day and is continually adding to the collection.

Established in 1976, EAFA was the first regional film archive and it continues to take a lead role in the film archive profession.

Most of the archive's resources are available to visitors, incuding teachers and students, schools and colleges, museums, television producers, and researchers such as writers, artists, historians and others with a personal interest in the collections. More people gain access to EAFA films across the region through videos, television programmes, film shows and other outreach work. Archive staff present film shows to over 250 audiences annually (some 14,000 people per year), and there is a range of over 35 videos for sale.

Films on all gauges and video formats are acquired and kept as a record of the region and its film makers. The collection includes cinema films, newsreels, advertisements, publicity and instructional films, television programmes, corporate videos and family films. The originals are carefully preserved, and copies made for access. Each film is added to the catalogue, which is accessible on EAFA's web site.
