Founded in 1963 by the President, Dr Peter Hurford, the biennial Festival is based in St Albans Cathedral. Two international organ competitions, one for Interpretation and one for Improvisation, lie at the heart of the Festival. The newly-restored organ of St Albans Cathedral together with the organs of St Peter's Church and St Saviour's Church will be used for the various rounds of the competitions, which take place before an international panel of jurors.
These competitions are open to young performers under the age of 34, selected by audition from all over the world. The Festival embraces many different events including concerts, recitals, masterclasses, an exhibition of small pipe organs and an Awayday excursion to s specially chosen place of interest. There are also regular series of monthly organ concerts. A warm welcome awaits you at one of the great music festivals of Europe.
