Summary This group is also known as Herts Schools' Symphony Orchestra
The Schools' Symphony Orchestra is a full orchestra for players of school age who have reached a minimum standard of Grade VII. The Orchestra works with professional conductors and experienced county sectional tutors.
In recent years, the HSSO has developed a reputation for innovative programming with its current principal conductor, Patrick Bailey. In August 2005 they were involved in a collaboration with jazz musician and composer, Django Bates and HYJE. In March 2007 they performed at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the Hertfordshire Schools Gala.
Prospective members will usually be senior members of their area and/or school orchestra. Further progression to the County Youth Orchestra is by audition or invitation.
The orchestra usually meets for three courses in an academic year, in the Christmas, spring and summer holidays.
