Established over thirty five years ago, the County Youth Orchestra offers high quality orchestral experience for more advanced instrumentalists. Under the direction of principal conductor, Peter Stark, the orchestra has gained a reputation as one of the best youth orchestra in the country.
The CYO performs at major venues and festivals in Europe - in summer 2007 the orchestra toured to Prague to perform in the Rudolfinnan Hall - and is noted for its innovative concerts and challenging repertoire. Recent performances have included Messiaen's Turangalila Symphony, Belshazzai's Feast, Mahler 3, Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, and acclaimed CD recording of Edwin Roxburgh's 'Satum'.
In the 2003-2004 season, the orchestra made a recording of Elgar's Concerto for Violin with David Greed.
Prospective players should be of Grade VIII standard. Entry is by audition or invitation, with an upper age limit of 21. For more information please contact the County Youth Music Activities Co-ordinator via email address.
