Harold Chaplin. Piano and Singing Tuition (Hertford)

I teach piano from the age of six and singing from teenage years. At the piano I especially encourage playing by ear, improvising and composition, often using a piece of printed music as a starting point. It follows that I like pupils to focus on the structure of music as well as its sound and, of course, how it is interpreted with correct technique. Pupils are entered for examinations if they wish.

Parental involvement is key to young pupils’ development. I also teach adults of all ages and stages, including complete beginners. There is an end of year Pupil’s Concert.

I also play and teach jazz piano and singing, including playing and singing for parties.

In September, I continue – ‘Musical Starters’ – classes in musicianship for 4-6 years old together with a parent.
This is usually on Saturday mornings for one hour before children undertake the study of an instrument. See separate details for this or visit www.tobinmusic to read about the colour system I employ.

My qualifications are MA (Hons) Edin, PGCE, CTABRSM (Certificate of Teaching of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music).
