Summary Also known as Harpenden Barbershop Harmony Club

Venue: Sir John Lawes School, Manland Way, Harpenden.
Days/times: Meets on Thursdays at 8.00pm for rehearsals.

The club was formed in 1984 and now comprises 45 male members of varying ages and occupations. The club is affiliated to the British Association of Barbershop Singers (BABS, registered charity number 1080930).

'The Kings of Herts' Chorus perform throughout the year at many official and private functions in the county and elsewhere (official and commercial, Rotary, masonic, golf clubs, weddings, anniversaries etc) plus entertainment for charities and other good causes such as residential homes and hospices.

The club meets every Thursday evening to enjoy its singing, brush up on its repertoire and introduce new music under its Director - Marie-Claude Perrault. Individual members also sing in quartets and octets on occasions, for their own enjoyment and to entertain.

The club stages a charity show occasionally, presenting male and female a capella acts, plus other local musical talent. It also competes anually at the UK National Championships, and are regularly finalists.

Potential new members from the Herts/Beds/North London area are always welcome. If you have an interest in singing, can sing in tune, and might want to look into joining this friendly club, please phone for a chat. It is not vital to be able to read music, as teaching materials are provided to enable members to learn their part. The club offers an 8 week new members coaching session to bring members up to the standard required to sing with the chorus in public.

The club also encourages links with industry and commerce in the form of sponsorship or fee-earning performances. Costs for chorus appearances run from £100 for small chorus to £150-£500 for a full appearance, depending on the size of the event.
