The choir was established in 1986 and consists of a core membership of about 30 experienced and enthusiastic amateur singers. The repertoire comprises both sacred and secular works, ranging from Renaissance church music and madrigals to music of the present day.
Based in the Harrow area, the Amici Chamber Choir performs approximately six concerts a year in venues which includes St Mary’s, Harrow-on-the-Hill, Pinner Parish Church and St James’ Piccadilly. The choir also regularly performs in venues outside London including Shaw’s Corner, Sherborne Abbey, Dartmouth and Machynlleth. Between 1999 and 2003, the choir enjoyed three foreign tours to Paris, Hungry and Southern France.
Rehearsals are held from 7.30pm to 9.30pm on Thursday evenings in Hatch End High School in North Harrow, close to Headstone Lane Railway Station (London overground – Euston to Watford Line).
Following the departure of Gary Peacock, their musical director of 14 years, in December 2007 to pursue other musical activities, the choir is currently operating with a series of guest conductors.
