Hertford Choral Society is a large, dynamic community choir and a registered charity. They have approximately 150 members. The Society is open to people of any age, from any locality. No audition is required in order to join, although new members who are over the age of 50 years are required to have a short voice test.

They are very welcoming to new members of all ages and both genders, but is particularly committed to providing young singers with the opportunity to sing in a large choir. Membership is free to those under 25. The choir holds at least one full day Workshop per year. This provides time to learn more about how to sing and to try out new ideas. While the pieces currently in rehearsal are usually used during the workshop, they also have the opportunity to try out different music from madrigals to rounds to improvisation.

The choir performs four concerts per year, often with professional orchestras. The majority of these are in All Saints’ Church in Hertford, although occasionally concerts are held in other venues. The choir’s repertoire is wide and varies from choral pieces by composers such as Beethoven and Bach, to Gospel Songs. In November 2007 the choir performed Berlioz' Grande Messe des Morts at the Royal Albert Hall with many other choirs in Hertfordshire.

If you are interested in finding out more, or joining the choir please contact Christine or Trish on the details given above.
